What are Porcelain Veneers?

Different Types of Porcelain Veneers

Not all veneers are created equally. You have a couple of different options to find the perfect solution to meet your needs and to achieve your desired results. Your cosmetic dentist in Bedford performs a comprehensive consultation to determine which type of veneer is right for you.

Traditional Porcelain Veneers

Traditional porcelain veneers are thinner than those made from composite material. As a result, less of your enamel is removed during the bonding process. This allows you to keep more of your tooth intact while enjoying a minimally invasive treatment.

Minimal-Prep Veneers

Minimal-prep veneers are ultra-thin. As a result, little to no enamel is removed during the bonding process. In some cases, your veneers can be placed in a single appointment; however, they may not last for as long as traditional porcelain veneers.

What is the Procedure Like?

After your consultation to ensure you are a candidate for veneers, you are scheduled for your procedure. Your teeth are cleaned, and a small amount of enamel is removed. This is necessary to allow the veneers to sit flush on your teeth. Digital impressions of your mouth are taken to craft them to meet your exact needs. This can take the dental lab a couple of weeks to ensure they are accurate, so we attach temporary ones in the meantime. Once the dental lab sends them back to our office, you return to have them bonded to your teeth. With the right aftercare, your new smile will last an average of 10 years before needing to be replaced.

The Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Using porcelain allows you to enjoy several advantages that are not possible with composite veneers, such as:
  • Natural-looking because porcelain mimics your enamel.
  • Stain-resistant to keep your new smile bright.
  • Minimally invasive.
  • Maintains more of your tooth’s structure.
  • Corrects several issues at once.
  • Long-term results.
  • Quick treatment process.
